Lomdei Presents BPL Principal Information Sessions Across the East Coast

Long Island, New York: Hebrew Academy of Long Beach (HALB)

On Dec 13th, 2021, more than ten Jewish Day School & Yeshiva Principals from across the New York area gathered at the Hebrew Academy of Long Beach (HALB) in Cedarhurst, NY, to learn about the Lomdei Blended & Personalized Learning (BPL) program.  Principals heard about the finer points of the Blended and Personalized Learning Project from Mrs. Chani Richmond, Lomdei’s BPL Director of Curriculum Development, Teacher Training, and Coaching, and Mr. Richard Altabe, Principal of HALB and Chairman of Lomdei’s Principal Advisory Committee.  Principals were also invited to get a firsthand look at BPL in action, observing its implementation in both Judaic and General Studies HALB classrooms.

Upon arrival, principals were welcomed by Mr. Altabe, who has led HALB to become one of the first Jewish day schools to adopt BPL in both General Studies and Limudei Kodesh.  During his address, Mr. Altabe highlighted the need for teachers to personalize their students' learning experience.  He described how Lomdei’s unique approach to professional development and follow-up coaching has helped the rebbeim and moros at HALB successfully integrate BPL in their classrooms. He emphasized that Lomdei’s coaches are rebbeim and moros themselves who are professionally trained to provide culturally relevant support to the educators that are participating in Lomdei’s BPL Project. Principals then heard from Mrs. Chani Richmond, who gave an overview of the goals and processes of the Lomdei BPL Program.

Finally, the principals had the opportunity to observe various  classes at HALB in which BPL is implemented under Lomdei’s training and guidance.  These classroom observations afforded the principals the chance to see how the structure of BPL in a Limudei Kodesh classroom can allow for a highly engaging and dynamic learning experience.

Miami, Florida: Yeshiva Toras Chaim Toras Emes

On Feb 16th, 2022, over eight school Principals from the Florida area gathered at Yeshiva Toras Chaim Toras Emes in North Miami Beach to learn about the Lomdei BPL program and see it in action. Rabbi Kalman Baumann, Menahel of Toras Emes, welcomed the principals and talked about how Toras Emes has been implementing BPL both in their Limudei Kodesh and Limudei Chol classrooms. He pointed out how effective a program like Lomdei BPL can be when provided by like-minded people who understand the needs of a yeshiva or Beis Yaakov and the potential obstacles that are avoided by having a course tailored to meet those needs. Additionally, Rabbi Baumann pointed out that Lomdei’s course can be geared to teachers or schools who are hesitant to use technology in their classroom structure, yet still strive to provide a personalized learning experience for their students.

Rabbi Baumann was followed by Mrs. Chani Richmond, who gave an overview of the goals and processes of Lomdei’s BPL course. Principals were then given the opportunity to observe Limudei Kodesh and Limudei Chol classrooms whose teachers are currently participating  in the Lomdei BPL program. Principals were inspired by seeing all that had been discussed in action and were eager to bring strategies of Blended & Personalized Learning back to their school classrooms.

New Jersey: Zoom Session for Principals of New Jersey Yeshivos

On Feb 23rd, 2022, eight school Principals in the New Jersey area gathered on Zoom to learn about the Lomdei BPL program. Similar to the in-person sessions in New York and Florida, Mr. Richard Altabe talked about the educational successes achieved by his school via the implementation of the Lomdei PBL program. He also advocated for schools to move towards this model in their classrooms and described how Lomdei can facilitate this move in the most dynamic and impactful way. Mr. Altabe was followed by Mrs. Chani Richmond,  who gave an overview of the goals and processes of Lomdei’s BPL course.

Lomdei Welcomes New Coaches

The second cohort of instructional coaches have recently completed their training and are gearing up  to guide rebbeim and moros on their BPL journey with Lomdei.  The training sessions took place during January and February, 2022, and were conducted by Mrs. Chani Richmond.  All Lomdei coaches are trained in the Google Challenge-Based Coaching model. This model provides a framework for a common language and similar goals for all coaches as they guide and support rebbeim and moros on their BPL journey.

Welcome to the new coaches: Rabbi Yehoshua Levy, Rabbi Jeremy Hartstein, Mrs. Ariella Goldsmith, and Mrs. Malka Weitzner! Lomdei wishes each coach much hatzlacha in helping teachers reach each student.

Does Your School Want to Join Lomdei BPL's Community of Educators?

Planning for next year's BPL Program is already underway! For the upcoming school year, Lomdei will be forming school cohorts. Yeshivos and day schools will be grouped together based on their common values and goals in the implementation of the Lomdei BPL Project. Cohorts may be grouped based on the following:

  • Schools without experience with BPL and who wish to use technology

  • Schools who wish to incorporate BPL but do not wish to use technology

  • Schools who have prior experience with BPL but need more guidance and direction to be fully successful.

We currently estimate that we will be servicing approximately 10 - 15 new schools with about 30-35 teachers participating in the training workshops and coaching! If you would like to inquire further, please reach out to Raphael Alter at ralph@lomdei.com.

Lomdei's Website Gets Major Upgrade

Lomdei's website has gotten a major upgrade! As of mid-March, visitors to www.lomdei.com now get a clearer picture of the full scope of Lomdei's work. The website was designed and developed by Rabbi Simcha Schaum, Director of Communications of Lomdei BPL, and greets visitors with a prominent display that features both of Lomdei's divisions: the new BPL program and the more well-known Lomdei Learning Platform. The website is appealing, easy to navigate, and is full of relevant information and engaging features.

We hope you enjoy these changes and visit our website soon to see all that we have to offer!

Update on the New Lomdei Learning Platform

Lomdei’s engineers are hard at work revamping the software of the popular Lomdei Learning Platform. The new Learning Platform will allow teachers to be as effective and efficient as possible as they provide a personalized learning experience for all of their students.

Rabbi Jeremy Hartstein, Lomdei’s Director of Teacher Development for the Lomdei Platform, calls this overhaul “a game changer for both students and teachers.”  He highlights the ease of use and the built-in flexibility of the new software, which will allow teachers to provide appropriate and meaningful skill-building tasks to their students on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. As Rabbi Hartstein says, “This will allow their students to work independently and at their own pace, while freeing up teachers for more effective small-group and one-on-one instruction."

Lomdei is on track to release the new platform, be’ezras Hashem, for the upcoming school year!

30-minute meet-ups for teachers using the Lomdei Platform.
